Marc Lottering is back on stage with his new one-man comedy Not A Musical. Even the title is a joke, following up on his gloriously funny full-on production, Auntie Merle The Musical. I sat with Marc to chat about comedy, life, whether young comics should be on stage before they've lived a life worth laughing at, and how much the character of Auntie Merle's young gay son is autobiographical.
The problem with interviewing Marc in a hotel is firstly the noise, with piped music and random chatter in the background, and secondly that every few minutes somebody recognises him and wants to take a photo! He is delightfully charming to everyone, but it does make the recroding a bit stop & start!
Not A Musical runs at Joburg's Montecasino Theatre from May 29 - June 9, then Cape Town's Theatre on the Bay from June 12-29. Tickets from Computicket.
